Tap to Pay

Tap to Pay for Australian sole traders and small businesses.

Accept contactless card payments on a supported phone, straight from the invoice you just raised — so the job is finished, invoiced and paid before you get back in the vehicle.

Be among the first to try ZappInvoice. Payments powered by Stripe.

Why it matters

The invoice and the payment shouldn't live in different apps.

Plenty of tools will send an invoice. Plenty of others will take a card payment. Running both means entering the job twice and reconciling it afterwards.

Get paid on the spot

The gap between finishing a job and getting paid is where cashflow problems live. Closing it on the day removes the chase entirely.

No extra hardware to carry

It runs on a supported phone, so there is no terminal to charge, pair, lose or leave in the other vehicle.

Invoice and payment in one record

Because the invoice lives in the same app, the payment is recorded against it — not sitting in a separate payments dashboard to reconcile later.

Payments powered by Stripe

Card processing is handled by Stripe, a established payments provider, rather than by ZappInvoice directly.

How it works in practice

Finish the job. Get paid. Move on.

  1. 1

Raise the invoice for the job in ZappInvoice, on site.

  2. 2

Choose to take payment in person.

  3. 3

The customer taps their card, phone or watch on your phone.

  4. 4

The payment is recorded against that invoice — no separate reconciliation.

What we don't claim

Device, card and wallet support for Tap to Pay is set by the platform and payment provider, not by ZappInvoice, and it changes over time. We don't list specific handsets or card types here — check the current requirements before relying on it for a particular setup.

Tap to Pay vs a separate terminal

Traditional EFTPOS terminals are dedicated hardware: a device to buy or rent, keep charged and carry. This runs on the phone already in your pocket.

  • No separate device to charge
  • Nothing extra to carry between jobs
  • Payment tied to the invoice
  • Works where the customer is

Payment processing fees still apply, as they do with any card acceptance method. See our guide to Tap to Pay for sole traders for how to think about the trade-offs.

Who it suits

Best for businesses that are with the customer.

Tradies

Plumbers, electricians, handypeople — finish the job, invoice it, take the card before packing up.

Mobile services

Mobile detailers, groomers, cleaners and technicians who work at the customer's place.

Contractors & freelancers

Anyone who meets clients in person and would rather not wait 30 days for a bank transfer.

Questions

Tap to Pay questions, answered.

Tap to Pay lets a supported smartphone accept contactless card payments directly, using the phone's built-in hardware. The customer taps their card, phone or watch against your phone instead of against a separate card terminal.

Tap to Pay is designed to remove the need for separate card-reader hardware in the situations it supports. Whether it replaces a terminal entirely depends on how you take payments — businesses that need a fixed counter setup, or that take payment types it does not cover, may still want dedicated hardware.

The invoice and the payment are part of the same workflow. You raise the invoice for the job in ZappInvoice and take the payment against it, so the record is already reconciled rather than being matched up later from a separate payments app.

Businesses that are physically with the customer when the work finishes: tradies, mobile service businesses, contractors, market stallholders, and anyone who currently invoices and then waits to be paid.

Payments in ZappInvoice are processed through Stripe. ZappInvoice integrates with Stripe for payment processing rather than handling card processing itself.
